This week see's the opening of Bumblebeez front man Chris Colonna's artwork exhibition. I haven't seen much of his stuff but after a quick browse on the Bumblebeez myspace, I'm guessing the new album artwork is a good example of what you might see.
The private view is this Thursday at Goodhood store in Hoxton where "The drinks will flow freely and there will be chances to win Bumblebeez vinyl, prints and other goodies!", apparently.

Well last night, as expected The Presets sent the crowd crazy as they introduced the us to a good selection of "emotive techno...pagan house and choral space funk" from the new album as well as the favorites from 'Beams' and 'Blow'. Their new material is living up to the expectation from what I heard of it. There are some down tempo numbers and of course plenty of bangers in there that were certainly appreciated last night. But of course 'Go Hard, Go Home' got the place moving like no other as the show drew to a close. I also managed to get my hands on a sampler of Apocalypso:

2. This Boy's In Love
3. Kicking & Screaming.mp3 (Mediafire)
4. A New Sky.mp3 (Mediafire)
5. If I know You.mp3 (Mediafire)
Unfortunatly PNAU had pulled their set but Ladyhawke certainly made up for it playing her 80's'esque indie/rock sound and capturing my undivided attention. Keep an eye out for her this summer, she's gonna be big.

The Presets - This Boy's in Love
Tonight I'm off to see The Presets sold out show at KCSU, London which, if their previous gigs are be anything to go by, will be just immense. They are expected to be playing a heap of new material from forthcoming album 'Apocalypso' including 'My People' and their new track 'This Boy's in Love' supported by PNAU and Ladyhawke so its going to be a bit of an Aussie experience.

Speaking of Night Ripper, I saw Girl Talk a couple weeks back which was incredible! I've been waiting to get photos from my friends Camera, and completely forgot to mention it. Anyway, yeah the sound performance isn't anything too new, a laptop Dj set comprised of mostly hip hop classics with the odd rock and funk classics, but Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk is one crazy mother fucker.
He came on stage dressed in jogging gear and by the end of his 2 and a half(ish) hour set he was only covering his modesty with a pair of white Y fronts. The stage was invaded from the start and the one man security team couldn't really do much to stop it, but this didn't bother Gills, he's pretty used to the venue going mental at all of his gigs, even being little known here in the UK there was probably more people on stage than on the dancefloor. I wouldn't be surprised if he made some festival appearances in the UK this summer. Keep an eye out!
The album Night Ripper is out now, check out his myspace for some tracks to download:

Hailing from the south of France, Leroy Washington and Sevenfive have become somewhat regulars on Oh-Death, and rightfully so. These guys have been spreading their infectious sound that provokes you to tap your foot, nod your head or just get the hell up and dance in the form of original tracks, remixes and jackin' mixtapes for almost a decade now. And last year they decided to rename their collaborative project to the aptly suited Tuff Wheelz.
So how long have you been Djing?
Leroy Washington - I've been djing since 10 years.
Sevenfive - I produce music since 10 years now and I started djing
about 7 years ago.
How did you two meet and why did you decide on becoming Tuff Wheelz rather than Leroy Sevenfive?
Leroy Washington - We meet at the Love parade !
Sevenfive - Ah ah, not really! I know Leroy for a long time as an influent DJ here in Bordeaux, we have common friends, we did several parties together but we really started to speak about making music together only last year. I already produce my music as Sevenfive, which sounds a bit different than Tuff Wheelz.
Leroy Washington - It was clearer for us to choose another name for this project.
Where did your DJ name come from?
Leroy Washington - We like bicycles, mainly BMX and fixed gear bikes.
Sevenfive - I had a modest career in BMX racing when I was younger and Leroy was also a true BMX fan and rider. We like old school bikes like Haro, Hutch or Skyway.
Leroy Washington - And Skyway made these incredible colored plastic wheels called Tuff Wheels. That's the reason of our name.
Can you name a record that first sparked your interest in dance music?
Leroy Washington - For me: French Kiss by Lil' Louis
Sevenfive - Maybe "Tour de france" by kraftwerk - and it's not a joke ! - when I first heard it when I was a kid. Later, Inner city - Big fun for sure.
Do you have any residencies or events you organise or play regularly?
Leroy Washington - With Kazey from Paris , I'm the resident of the "Let Me Bang " parties at the 4sans, a famous dance club in Bordeaux. We played with people like Dj Funk, Curtis Vodka, Surkin and more.
Sevenfive - As Tuff Wheelz, not really. But next month we'll start our Keep on Pumpin' parties. Monthlies ones I hope.
When did you first begin making music?
Leroy Washington - I started as a drum'n'bass dj about 10 years ago now.
Sevenfive - Since 10 years now for me too. We're not so young !
Do you prefer to remix other artists tracks or produce original material?
Sevenfive - Both are fun. Remixing is a cool thing. You start with something, get the spirit of the track but trying to put your own "touch". Producing original tracks is very greatfull. Working with Leroy is fun because we first listen to music, old and new, drinking and smoking, then we switch on the synthesizers and computers, playing with the sounds and the loops ...
Leroy Washington - And we found something that match to our different influences.
Who would you most like to work with on a track and why?
Sevenfive - Too much people! Andrew Weatherall or Timbaland as producers of course ! But they're a little bit expensive for us :) Apparat, Deadmau5, A-track, Siriusmo, ...
Leroy Washington - For me, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Diamond D.
Sevenfive - Ah, and also two guys, Thomas and Guy Man, because they're cool ...
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years time?
Sevenfive - At the Miami winter conference, having a drink with Armand Van Helden near the pool. Definitely.
Leroy Washington - Humm.....I don't know.
What was your highlight of 2007?
Sevenfive - The Daft Punk's pyramid.
Leroy Washington - My 1989 's nike air pressure
What are your plans for 2008?
Sevenfive - Making tracks that people like to hear, to play, to dance. meeting cool people, travelling, be signed on a label.
Tuff Wheelz - KEEP ON PUMPIN'.mp3 (zshare)

Yesterday, I was driven to a recording studio in west London and had the privilege to meet my all time dance hero's The Prodigy. I'm hopefully going to be working with them on their upcoming tour merchandise for the summer and later in the year. I had the privilege of being one of the very few who have been told the new album title and have seen the artwork by a well known London illustrator. Now, not to be one to sour negotiations as I really want to work on this I'm gonna keep quiet about details, but stay posted for more info soon.

I just read about this project called White Glove Tracking in which May last year the task was set for visitors of www.whiteglovetracking.com to help isolate the position of the white glove in all 10,060 frames of Michael Jackson's 5 min 34 sec landmark performance of Billy Jean to aid experiment of coding and image manipulation with somewhat hilarious consequences.
After about a minute you can see what they've done to the footage, and if you were to spend a bit more time on it you could amend it so the glove was the only thing being magnified.
If you have no idea whats going on then check out the original clip here.
I'm not to sure what other purposes the coding was intended to be used for but it does lend itself to help inspire some more creative music videos, given the amount of tosh around these days.

How on earth does So Me do it .....?
at Monday, March 03, 2008
Yeah I know, I know, theres been a significant lack of posts recently. Well to be fair theres only one of me and while I'm already stretched working the 9-5 designing for the likes of The Kills, Go! Team, Pendulum, Robyn, etc. any spare time I do get is spent freelance designing so its hard to find time to do anything but breathe. Anyway this weekend I had time to thrash out some new tee designs, Death Mask (above) and another which I'm still putting finishing touches to. I'm hopefully getting them sampled this week so should be available in the coming week or so both as tee's and limited screen prints from Little Art Book. Oh, you can also read an interview with me on the Little Art Book blog page.
