I Wish Daft Punk Was Playing At My House

http://www.myspace.com/thechaingangof1974

Denver based musician Kamtin M is better known as The Chain Gang Of 1974. His self styled electronic punk sound is inspired by the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Primal Scream, The Presets, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Here's his new track "I Wish Daft Punk Was Playing At My House", not to be mistaken for being anything similar to the LCD Soundsystem track of a similar name, this track has its independent lyrics and sound, if maybe a little Death From Above 1979-esque with the grinding guitar sample. Check out his myspace for more downloads.

Introducing: BUL!M!ATRON!

http://www.myspace.com/bulimiatron
Photo: Era Disco

So how long have you been Djing?
About a year solid now. Producing for 5 or 6 years

Where did your DJ name come from?
I was on a lot of drugs ahahahaha

Do you have any residencies or events you organise or play regularly?
I resident @ club ERA in riverside, CA and once a month for LA's Hi-Fi Noize. This month we had Crystal Castles @ Era & are having Partyshank for their US Debut @ Hi-Fi.

You play mostly in LA and have played a couple of private parties, have you ever had a surreal story of a crazy night out?
I did a backyard party in neighborhood in LA and I was robbed at gunpoint for a mixer. It was cheap, but still very scary to experience a gun at my stomach.

Do you prefer to remix other artists tracks or produce original material?
I love original productions but remixes are so much fun to play around with! They're both essential.

Are there any bands or artists that you draw inspiration from?
I am inspired by Ed Banger Recs, Kitsune, Benny Benassi, Pink floyd, Beastie Boys, NWA & lots of old school Rap/Hip Hop, Soulwax, DatA, & about a million other artists. Far too many to list

Who would you most like to work with on a track and why?
I would love to work with D.I.M, Crookers or the Bloody Beetroots because we all love that dirty ass bass and snapclaps!

What tracks are really doing it for you at the moment?
My secret weapons to gettin the floor moving lately are the Bonde Do Role "Divine Gosa" remixes, Calvin Harris, MSTRKRFT, Crookers, Deadmau5, Ocelot, Villains, Surkin, and of course...Daft Punk. oh, and Shazam! fuckin disco!!!

What was your highlight of 2007?
My highlight of 2007 would have to be the new years eve party. I booked Felix Cartal and MSTRKRFT rolled to the party to hang and have drinks. It was intense. I got fuucked up that night.

What are your plans for 2008?
Plans for 2008 are to tour Europe. Wish me luck!

Are You The One (Lifelike Remix)

I got this little beauty in the mail this morning from Modular, a fresh remix of The Presets by Lifelike.

"A party throwdown that joins the old with the new, this barnstorming new interpretation of Are You The One? has been masterly brought to “life” by French whiz-kid, Lifelike. Lifelike has stamped his name resoundingly onto the minds of electronica fans the world-over. His 1 Serious Remix of AYTO gives a respectful nod-of-the-head to the original track, but is a true reappropriation in its delivery. For Presets connoisseurs, this represents the closest thing to a bridge between Beams and their sophomore album, Apocalypso. In a genre-spotting sense, Lifelike has spawned a track that sits somewhere between a raw, industrial, noise aesthetic, and filtered disco 2am party jam."

Introducing: Med Damon

http://www.myspace.com/lemed
Photo: Max Gleeson

Med Damon, not to be confused with Matt Damon (although that is where his Dj alias stemmed from thanks to Team America) is part of London's Snap Crackle & Pop collective and has just celebrated the club night's first birthday. Originally from Boudeaux, Med has already made a name for himself in the London club scene Djing for events such as Bugged Out, All You Can Eat, Wet Yourself and Alwayz Frydaze to name a few.

So where did your DJ name come from?

From Team America, Maaaaaaaaaatt Damon = Med Damon. It's very silly but it just caught on..

How long have you been Djing?
About 3 years properly. I was really into my hip hop records when i was little but just kinda stopped. I went back at it when i moved to London, but with electro & Cdjs.

Can you name a record that first sparked your interest in dance music?
Naming one record is hard, but I'd say Daft Punk's Homework maybe.

Where are your originally from and where are you based now?
From France originally, around Bordeaux, based in London now.

You are co-promoter and resident dj for the Snap Crackle & Pop collective, how long have you been running parties and have you organized events before?
I organized a few small parties before, and was resident and helped out with Warboy & K-Tron's club All You Can Eat, but Snap Crackle & Pop is the first one that I've been properly organizing, mainly with Harry (Get Harmed) and some other people. Its been going for more than a year and we're really excited about the future!

Do you have any residencies elsewhere?
Not anymore, only SC&P events.

Are you playing any festivals this summer or plan to take Snap Crackle & Pop to a wider audience?
I'm doing the 3 dates of the Dot to Dot festival, Newcastle, Brighton & London. The 1234 Shoreditch one, and I should be doing a couple in Sao Paulo in Brazil in May too which is really exciting!

Which is your favorite club night/venue to play and why?
I don't really know about London, It's hard to say, theres just so much going on. I really love playing abroad though, came back from Milan not long ago, played Bugged Out there and it was real blast!

Do you produce or remix your own tracks?
Not yet, well I'm working on it but I'm waiting to be 100% happy with it before talking about or putting it out.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Wow, no idea. Somewhere sunny maybe?

What are your plans for 2008?
A lot! Loads of good stuff is coming up with Snap crackle and pop! We're having our summer party on the 5th of June with The Bloody Beetroots and that should be amazing! A lot more coming up but we cant announce it yet! stay tuned!

... For the time being anyway.

As my backlog of design work seems to be gradually getting done, I'm able to tear myself away from my Mac and go and have some fun and Dj to whoever will listen to me. First stop will be this Saturday at the Redstar in Camberwell playing alongside The Metro's and The Lovebirds.

Next up, I've got the pleasure of being invited by The Arcs Of Triumph boys to come and spin some records at Tetric in Dublin. I've passed through the city before en route to Electric Picnic a couple of years back and have been meaning to come back. This may not be a long stay but I sure intend on packing as much in as I can in the 24hours I'm there.

I'm also in the process of finalising some other dates, some possibly involving the current Skins Live tour, we'll see. Info on all current dates can be found over on my Myspace page.

Tuff Wheelz Vs. Strip Steve

Tuff Wheelz are back again with a remake of Strip Steve's track 'Ready Steady'. The fellow Bordeaux resident originally sampled Weezer's 'We Are All On Drugs', (of which I used to make my own edit that you can find here) leaving out the ripping guitar solo riff and concentrating more on the strumming melody while dropping a massive beat behind it. But here however, Tuff Wheelz have kept to Steve's formula of jackin' electro but added their own twists and turns almost characterising elements of Daft Punk/ Justice and some early 90's acid house. Yet another quality remix from the French duo.

McBess

http://mcbess.com/

I came across McBess aka Matthieu Bessudo via Lifelounge today and man his work is sick! I really love these bold, round characters he draws and his immense attention to detail. There is also something there in his strange, almost acid induced pictures that remind me of early Disney cartoons.

It turns out that French born Bess has already been involved with Kitsune Noir's wallpaper project along with the likes of imakethings and Tim Biskup. Take a look at his site for more awesome work.

Wearing My £24.3 Million Rolex

I work just next to the Finsbury Leisure Centre, off Old Street and a couple of weeks back as I passed the football pitches after work there were some girls standing around with foxes heads on. It seemed a little strange until I noticed the film crew standing with them. I figured it must have been some music video or maybe a new advert for Foxy Bingo. Then today randomly, I found the video above for 'Wearing My Rolex' by Wiley and it all made sense (Well the reason for why some hot girls were dressed as foxes, the video is completely beyond me?).

Anyway, I ended up at this video after finding the 'Wearing My Rolex - the McCartney & Mills Video Remix' version over here. A version I much prefer.

Reading Festival

http://www.readingfestival.com/home/home/

So, last night the headliners were announced for this years Reading and Leeds festivals. Not really much of a surprise, although it's strange to see Metallica headline again just 5 years after they last played there. Never the less, it looks pretty awesome so far.

This year is also their 20/10 anniversary, 20 years of Reading Festival and 10 years of Leeds. I would have thought they'd add some more quality acts to the existing lineup to celebrate it. Stay posted.

I've been involved with designing the merchandise for the previous two events so, I should hopefully be working on it again this year. I'm currently updating my portfolio of tee's and stuff I've designed for bands over the past two years so I'll drop you a link soon for the update.
