Too Hip To Be Scared Mix

In preparation for hosting the first Too Hip To Be Square Halloween party this coming Saturday 27th October, I have just put together a Halloween Mix to get you into the spirit, so to speak. Featuring themed classics from the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, The Specials, Ozzy Osbourne, Harry Belafonte, Will Smith, Iron Maiden and Bing Crosby to name a few. After almost 3 years of hosting parties in London, on Saturday October 27th Too Hip To Be Square will be taking over All Star Lanes, Brick Lane for our first ever Halloween Special!

Along with the usual night packed with musical hidden treasures and guilty pleasures spanning the past five decades we will be pulling out the stops to bring you the perfect soundtrack to your Halloween. As well as providing gruesome visuals, decorated venue and ghostly music selection there will be THTBS screen prints, special £4 Halloween cocktails and the best Halloween outfit wins an £100 All Star Lanes voucher!

This month we invite back Paradise resident Jim Sharp (Championship Vinyl) to spin a special horror selection alongside the usual suspects Oh-Death, Alruii and White Tyson on DJ duty spinning the finest hip-hop, funk, soul and disco. Plus ghoulish visuals supplied by our resident visual experts Fade In Fade Out. The party kicks off at 8pm and it's free entry. Check out the Facebook event for more details.

Good Vibes Mix for Goodhood

http://goodhoodstore.com/
You may already be aware but boutique clothing store Goodhood have been publishing a series of mixtapes from various DJ's and contributors on their Soundcloud for their Sunday mix series; Good Vibes.

I was recently asked to contribute a mixtape taking a more relaxed approach bearing in mind the vibe is of course music suitable for a chilled Sunday listening. So I dug deep in the crates aside from the usual Too Hip To Be Square vibe of things and put together a 50 minute mix of soul, jazz, funk and hip hop. The mix is now available to listen via Soundcloud:

Also, my last Too Hip To Be Square - Summer Mix in collaboration with Roktic is now available for limited download via my Soundcloud:

Straighten It Out Volume 2

As you might have been able to tell things are pretty quiet on the blog as of late. No excuse other than I'm simply too busy at the moment to post everything I find. However, I do always make time for friends so, in tradition on this blog it's time for another amazing mixtape from the good Jim Sharp.

"It's been seven months since Straighten It Out Volume 1 dropped. I was completely surprised and humbled by the amount of support it received. Since then I've taken over the Saturday residency at The Paradise from Ali B (who has moved to Canada) and every week the crowd is still getting down to Funk & Soul with some Hip Hop, Reggae and Disco sprinkled on top. Volume 2 represents some of the new sounds and tunes I've been running on Saturdays. I'm not including a tracklist this time around but I'm going to be dropping various edits from the mix in the upcoming weeks."

Check out his mix and new edit's below and keep an eye on his Soundcloud for more
